Morphing Pathology Diffusion (MoPaDi) User Study

You will be shown patches from WSIs and asked to complete two tasks:

  1. Task 1 — Authenticity: For each image, judge whether it looks Real (realistic histology) or Synthetic (AI-generated or AI-modified).
  2. Task 2 — Morphology: After completing Task 1 for a section, you will review the transitions of images to their synthetic counterfactual counterparts (showing how an image would need to look to be classified as an opposite class) and select which morphological features are visible from a set of predefined options.

The study covers 10 sections across four cancer types (colorectal, liver, lung, breast). Some sections consist of Task 1 followed by Task 2:

  • Task 1 (~2–5 min per section): judge authenticity of individual images — expect around 30 images per section.
  • Task 2 (~8–15 min per section): review image transitions and annotate morphological features — expect 15–26 transitions per section, each showing 4–5 images.

Total estimated time: 1.1–1.5 hours. You do not need to complete everything in one sitting — your progress is saved automatically after every response. Pause at any time by clicking "Pause" or closing the browser, then resume later by re-entering your exact ID.
